ABOUT INKNOIRE 5.0

InkNoire 5.0 (formerly known as InkNoire, and formerly known as Black Ink) is a Canadian literary blog that I founded back in the spring of 2005. In the past, InkNoire has featured literary news and events, book reviews, and interviews with members of the North American literary community. This is my third attempt at rejuvenating the blog.

I was born and I’m currently based in Montreal. I graduated with a B.A. in English Literature from Concordia University and have been firmly planted in La Belle Province for the last 16 years. When I’m not freelancing or publishing and updating InkNoire, I’m busy working at my day job. As in the past, you will find news-related posts about the lit scene and culture in Canada (and elsewhere), as well music, new media, culture, and anything else that rocks my world. Enjoy! :)

With the launch of InkNoire 5.0, I’ll try to post once a week; but I have a life beyond the Internet so bear with me. If you’d like to keep up-to-date with blog postings, you can always subscribe to our feed through a free reader (see Free RSS Readers on the top left). If you already have a GMail account then you can subscribe through Google Reader.

Proud Past, Bright Future

In 1907, a small group of Black men and women formed Union United Church, Montreal’s oldest Black congregation, with a treasury of just $1.83. Founders hailed from parts of Canada, the United States and the Caribbean, and laid the foundation for Montreal’s Black community at a time when they were relegated to work as domestics and railway porters. Proud Past, Bright Future is a 200-page non-fiction book that chronicles the history of this unique community.
Penned by Montreal writer Maranda Moses, the book is a comprehensive look at the formation and history of the church and includes a moving foreword by Mairuth Sarsfield, author of the bestselling Canadian novel No Crystal Stair. Among the members highlighted in Proud Past, Bright Future are Dr. Charles Este, Oscar Peterson and Rufus Rockhead. Key international figures such as Nelson Mandela are also featured.

Copies of this book can be purchased through your local independent bookstore and at Union United Church, Telephone (514) 932 – 8731; Fax: (514) 932-8846. www.unionunitedchurchmtl.ca.
